April 29, 2013 - Monday Night Anarchy - Norfolk, VA

Attendance: 8,305 (81%)

“Hail to the King” blares through the arena as Josh Daniels and Scott Michaels welcome everyone to the Scope in Norfolk. They talk about the storied history of the arena and say it’s an honor to be hosting the first HWL event in the arena since the company started.

Jay Briscoe’s music begins to play as he makes his way to the ring. Briscoe grabbed a microphone and said he had a couple things to get off his chest. First, he said that it can no longer be denied that he is capable of being a respected challenger for the Heavyweight Title after the performance he had last week. He said he defeated three of the top stars in the HWL and walked out with his hand raised along with a one-way ticket to Fully Loaded to face John Cena for the Heavyweight Title. He said that he had gone through a lot of s*** over the past month, but winning last week helped erase a lot of that. He said he hoped John Cena was watching what he did to Roderick Strong last Tuesday night because it proved that he wasn’t afraid to do whatever it took to finish what he started.

Briscoe said that even though his match with Cena was coming up soon, he still had some time to focus on that matter. Instead, he wanted to focus on the little issue that had been bugging him since last week. Briscoe called out Randy Orton, saying whatever problem he had with Briscoe, he would be more than happy to settle things in the ring. He again mentioned that he liked to finish things once and for all.

Randy Orton’s music interrupted Briscoe as “The Viper” walked onto the stage. Orton started to laugh and said he didn’t know whether it was denial on Briscoe’s part or just blissful ignorance that he didn’t seem to know why Orton might have an issue with him. Orton reminded Briscoe that, back at Wrestleocalypse, Briscoe walked away with his tail between his legs because he couldn’t face Orton like a man. Orton said he found it funny that now, since Briscoe managed to win a shot at John Cena’s title, he wanted to start settling scores. Orton said that there would only be one way for Briscoe to prove that he truly wanted this match – and wouldn’t run scared like last time. Orton said that he would face Briscoe later tonight only if Briscoe put his Heavyweight Title at Fully Loaded on the line.

Without hesitation, Briscoes accepted the stipulation, and said that he looked forward to getting his hands on Orton later tonight. Orton smiled and walked away as Anarchy went to commercials.

Eddie Edwards (0-3) vs. Brutus Magnus (0-1)
Returning from the break, and introductions for the first match begin. Edwards came into this match after dropping his last three matches, still looking to pick up his first victory of the new “season”. Magnus was also looking to pick up his first win but was much more level-headed than the struggling Edwards After a mid-ring collision knocked down the referee, Edwards saw a chance to let go of his frustration. He grabbed a chair from the ringside area and brought it into the ring, looking to inflict damage; but Magnus put a stop to it with a boot to the stomach. Seizing the chance, Magnus grabbed the chair and cracked it over Edwards’s head before the referee got back to his feet. With Edwards motionless on the canvas, Magnus covered him for the 1-2-3.

Brutus Magnus pinned Eddie Edwards after a chair shot in 8:06.

Coming back from commercials, Women’s Champion BRIE BELLA and LEVA BATES are talking backstage. Brie said she had something to ask Leva because it’s been weighing on her mind for the past few weeks. She then asks why it seems like Leva keeps interfering in her matches. Bates looked confused and said that she was only trying to help Brie. Brie said she appreciated the concern, but she’s Women’s Champion. She’d beaten every woman on the roster, including Bates. Bates, feeling insulted, told Brie that she would speak to her later before walking off in the other direction.

Nikki Bella (0-3) vs. Angelina Love (1-0)
Nikki Bella had found herself on the short end of a three-match losing streak; the last of which was at the hands of Angelina Love at Rebellion. Bella had the opportunity to even things up with the former Knockout, but Love was determined to back up her comments from last week. Thanks to a superkick that caught Bella right under the chin, Love was able to back up her claims with a very short victory.

Non-Title Match
© John Cena & Kurt Angle vs. © Kofi Kingston & AJ Styles
In a pre-match interview that was taped earlier in the day, Kurt Angle talked about how a victory tonight would certainly put him and Cena as the best choice to face Kingston and Styles at Fully Loaded with the Tag Team Titles on the line. Cena had other things in mind as he said he could care less about the Tag Team Titles because he has the gold that everyone on the roster wanted. Cena said that tonight would be the closest Styles came to the Heavyweight Title in a long time. Unfortunately for Cena and Angle, COLT CABANA and EDWIN COLON had other plans. The duo made their way to ringside early on in this match, antagonizing the champions until finally ambushing Kingston during a pinfall attempt, causing the referee to call for the DQ.

After the match, Styles entered the ring to come to his partner’s rescue, but he was quickly overcome by the numbers game. Cabana and Colon stood in the center of the ring and had a stare-down with Cena and Angle, who were standing at ringside.

Returning from the break, CM Punk is shown backstage with Alisha Hicks, still showing the effects of his match at Rebellion against John Cena. When asked how he is feeling, both mentally and physically, Punk scoffed at the question. Clearly, he said, his body took a hell of a lot of damage at Rebellion. But those wounds will heal. What is harder to get over is knowing that as long as a no-talent hack like John Cena is champion, Punk can not challenge for the title. Punk said that he and Jay Briscoe only knew each other in passing a number of years ago, but that he would rather see Briscoe as champion instead of Cena. When asked if that meant Punk would have an easier time challenge Briscoe, Punk smiled for a second before getting very serious. He told Alisha that he knew she had a job to do, but she would be better off to not step out of line with her questions again. He said that he had already beaten Cena for that title and knew he was capable of doing it again. But the power that be – Peter Bradshaw – felt it was better to have someone else take a shot at Cena.

Alisha quickly changed course and asked Punk about the Triple Threat Match he was scheduled for later tonight against Chris Hero and Adam Cole, someone else who he shared a lengthy history with. Punk mentioned the rivalry he had with Cole last year, after Cole had cost him the Heavyweight Title. He said that he doesn’t forget things, and when it comes to that title, he holds grudges. He said that he didn’t believe in divine intervention, but he was fortunate that he could kick Cole’s ass tonight as a compensation, if nothing else.

Mike Sydal (2-1) vs. Jesse Neal (1-2)
In a pre-match interview, Mike Sydal was shown carrying the Golden Opportunity briefcase in his hand. Sydal said that winning the briefcase during the first-ever HWL show in Israel was a huge rock star moment for him! To know that, in his hand, he has a guaranteed shot at the Heavyweight Champion any time he wants, is like signing your first million-dollar record deal. He said that he would be biding his time, waiting for the right moment to cash it in. Tonight, however, was not the night for Sydal to cash in – or to even pick up a victory – as he took on Jesse Neal. Sydal and Neal put on a great match, with Sydal countering more of Neal’s offense than Neal would have liked. But, eventually, Sydal’s counter-attacks started to fail and Neal caught him with a Crash Thunder Buster for the victory.

Jesse Neal pinned Mike Sydal after the Crash Thunder Buster in 9:19.

An advertisement is shown for the up-coming Fully Loaded pay-per-view. Fully Loaded will be LIVE from the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 19th!

Adam Cole (2-1) vs. Chris Hero (0-0) vs. CM Punk (0-1)
CM Punk made his return tonight, after suffering numerous wounds during his Three Stages of Hell Match against John Cena at Rebellion. In the statements made earlier tonight, Punk said that he was looking forward to the chance to get his hands on Adam Cole again, bringing back memories of their rivalry from a year ago. However, when the match began, both Cole and Punk seemed reluctant to step into the ring with each other, continuously tagging in Chris Hero.

Hero, looking to pick up his first victory of the new season had the odd task of fighting off an inadvertent doube-team which resulted from Punk and Cole’s refusal to fight each other. Hero held his own against both men, and in the early moments of the match, got some unwarranted help by LUKE GALLOWS, who came down to ringside. Gallows grabbed a steel chair, and with Cole slouching against the turnbuckles, cracked the chair of his head, crumpling Cole to the ground. Hero took advantage of this, pulling Cole away from the ropes and making the cover for the match’s first elimination.

It was then down to Hero and Punk to see who would walk away victorious tonight. Hero was much-better conditioned than Punk, as it was clear the match was slowly taking its toll on Punk. Hero threw everything he could at the former Heavyweight Champion, but Punk was able to either block or counter most of it. Punk ducked a Running Forearm attempt and listed Hero up with a back drop. Punk locked on the Anaconda Vice, but Hero was able to fight his way to the ropes, breaking up the submission. The move, though, had done its job, and Hero was slow to get to his feet. Punk lifted Hero up and connected with the GTS before crumping on top of Hero for the cover as the referee counted to three.

CM Punk defeated Adam Cole and Chris Hero:
X Hero beat A. Cole via pinfall in 5:20.
X Punk beat Hero via the GTS in 10:20.
Rating: 2.75

Returning from the break, a recap video is shown of the altercation between Jay Briscoe and Randy Orton from the start of the show. As the video ends, John Cena’s music plays and he walks out, with the title around his waist, to a roar of boos. Smirking, Cena joins Josh and Scott at the announcers’ table, and says that they need to keep their mouths shut and don’t ask him any questions. He’s out here for one reason only: to find out whose ass he’ll be facing at Fully Loaded.

Number One Contender’s Match
Jay Briscoe (3-0) vs. Randy Orton (1-1)
Last week, Briscoe walked away with a victory, earning the right to challenge John Cena for the Heavyweight Title at Fully Loaded. The thrill of victory was quickly diminished as Randy Orton slid into the ring and hit an RKO on Briscoe in the center of the ring. Tonight, Briscoe demanded a match with Orton, but Orton said he would agree unless Briscoe put his title shot on the line. Briscoe gave in and the match was set. Both men were determined to put the other away tonight, earning a clear path to Fully Loaded, but John Cena seemed to have other plans while he was sitting at ringside. Cena kept a close eye on both participants during the match, even sharing words with both Briscoe and Orton at one point or another. When it looked like Briscoe had the match won and was setting up for the J-Driller, Cena left the announce table and slid into the ring with the Heavyweight Title in his hands. Briscoe and Cena stared down each other as the crowd began to rumble with anticipation. As Orton slowly got to his feet in the corner, Cena turned and cracked him in the head with the title belt! A stunned Briscoe watched as Cena rolled out of the ring, smirking, and the referee called for the DQ.

After the match, Briscoe stood dumbfounded as Cena backed his way up the ramp, waving his hand in front of his face. The announcers sound just as shocked, saying that John Cena just screwed Jay Briscoe out of his title shot at Fully Loaded. They wonder if Briscoe will have anything to say about what happened next week.

[Number One Contenders’ Match]:
Randy Orton defeated Jay Briscoe by DQ in 18:23.
