January 21, 2013 - Monday Night Anarchy - Santiago, Chile

Commentators: Josh Daniels & Scott Michaels
Attendance: 7,650

A video is shown of last week’s Best of the Best Qualifying Match, which was won by John Cena. Inside the arena, Josh Daniels welcomes everyone to Santiago, Chile, and introduces Scott Michaels. They talk about Cena’s victory last week, and how that might put him in a good position to come out on top at the Best of the Best pay-per-view on February 10th. They also talk about the challenge issued by Kurt Angle for CM Punk and the Heavyweight Title in Detroit.

“Cult of Personality” begins to play as the crowd cheers. CM Punk walks on-stage with the Heavyweight Title around his waist. He walks down to the ring and grabs a microphone as the music dies down. Punk says that last week, John Cena punched his ticket for one of the final three spots in the Best of the Best battle royal. Sure, Punk says, it betters Cena’s chances of winning, but there are still 14 other men that are vying for the chance to face “The Best in the World” for the Heavyweight Title. But Punk says he can’t worry about those 15 men right now because there’s one that thinks he can just grab a microphone, start making demands, and both Peter Bradshaw and he are going to bow their heads in agreement. Punk tells Kurt Angle that he doesn’t bow to anyone. And just because Angle came out last week and made a demand to face him at Best of the Best… Punk wants to know why Angle feels entitled to a title shot. Punk says that Angle may have beaten him the last time they were in the ring together, but it wasn’t because Angle got the better of him. No, it was because Punk choked him out with the heel of his boot! Punk says that there are only two ways that he’ll agree to face Kurt Angle and put the Heavyweight Title on the line. One: Angle can convince him that he’s the rightful challenger. Or two: Bradshaw tells him there’s no other choice. Until then, Punk is not accepting Angle’s challenge. He leaves the ring and walks up the ramp as the show goes to commercials.

X-Division Title Match
Matt Morgan vs. © Kevin Steen

Matt Morgan has been doing everything he can to secure a title match against Kevin Steen as of late. At Brutality, Morgan was given his opportunity, but neither man was able to get to his feet before the count of 10, as the match ended in a draw. This time around, Morgan was looking to take full advantage of the “hardcore rules” that come along with the X-Division Title matches, as he was more prone to keep the match outside the ring. Steen, the champion going on 134 days, wasn’t about to give up without putting everything he had into this match. He took what Morgan was dishing out, but even overmatch by Morgan’s strength, was willing to dish out what he could back. The one thing Steen has in his pocket that Morgan doesn’t, is the willingness to break the rules when it benefits him. That’s exactly what Steen did tonight, as he used the title belt as a weapon, smashing against Morgan’s skull. Steen covered “The Blueprint” as the referee looked on before making the 1-2-3.

[X-Division Title Match]:
Kevin Steen pinned Matt Morgan after hitting him with the title belt in 10:22.

Returning from the break, Nikki Bella is waiting outside her dressing room when she is approached by her sister Brie. Brie adjusts the Women’s title over her shoulder and says that she’s eager to hear what Nikki’s good news is. Nikki can’t control her excitement when she announces that she’s challenging Brie for the Women’s Title at Best of the Best. She hugs Brie, who doesn’t return the gesture, and walks away. Brie looks on, her jaw muscles tightening.

Eric Young vs. Martin Kirby
Tonight, the fans in Santiago saw a match that not many people thought would happen anytime soon, as current tag team partners stepped into the ring for singles action. Before the match, Young and Kirby did shake hands, in a show of good faith. But, once the bell rang, neither man went easy on his partner. In a fairly quick match, that stayed inside the ring, Kirby was able to connect with the Spinal Shock to pick up the victory. After the match, Kirby helped Young to his feet, and the two men left the ring together.

Martin Kirby pinned Eric Young with the Spinal Shock in 8:06.

In a pre-recorded interview with Alisha Hicks, AJ Styles and Kofi Kingston accept The Independents’ challenge for Best of the Best. Kingston says that they unblemished since joining forces, and nothing that Shane Hagadorn has up his slimy sleeves will help his team take the belts away. Styles adds that the same thing keeps getting repeated about Castagnoli and Corino: they can’t succeed without Hagadorn sticking his nose in their business. He says that they are open to all challenges because no one has proven good enough to be called Tag Team Champions. At the end of the interview, as Styles and Kingston walk away, they are blindsided by Castagnoli and Corino! The Independents do a number on the champions before walking away, leaving them laying on the hallway floor.

The British Invasion vs. The Independents (w/Shane Hagadorn)
Castagnoli and Corino came out to the ring looking very pleased with themselves after their attack on the Tag Team Champions earlier tonight. They were met with a round of boos from the crowd that Shane Hagadorn told them to shrug off because the Chilean people were jealous of them. The team that greeted them in the ring was not ready to put up with any shenanigans, as they quickly took the fight to the cocky duo. The highlight of the match may have been when Rob Terry and Castagnoli were in the ring, matching their strength against each other. Castagnoli eventually took control, using underhanded tactics; he and Corino spent the rest of the match working over Terry. After hitting Terry with a stiff clothesline, Corino made the cover. But before the referee could count to three, KOFI KINGSTON slid into the ring broke up the pin! After the match, Kingston and Styles brawled with The Independents inside the ring until HWL officials rushed down to break things up.

The Independents (Claudio Castagnoli & Steve Corino) defeated The British Invasion (Brutus Magnus & Rob Terry) when S. Corino defeated R. Terry by DQ in 8:33.
Rating: * ¼
(Kofi Kingston interfered against Steve Corino.)

Commercial Break

Returning from commercials, John Cena’s music plays as he makes his way onto the stage. He stands and looks out to the crowd, who is booing him, and shakes his head before walking down and entering the ring. Inside the ring, Cena says that he still doesn’t understand how people can boo him after what he’s accomplished in this business. Then again, he says that people hate what they can’t be, and none of the people inside the arena will ever amount to anything close to what Cena has. Cena says, last week, he became the early favorite to win the Best of the Best battle royal and earn a shot at the main event at Wrestleocalypse. He says it doesn’t matter if he faces CM Punk, Kurt Angle, or anyone else on that night because he knows he’s better than anyone in the back. Before he can continue, ALEX RILEY makes his way on-stage, telling Cena to hold his thought. Riley walks down the ramp, telling Cena that he was the biggest thorn in his side last week; and if things had gone differently, Riley would be sitting in the top three heading into the battle royal. Riley says that he’s just as capable of earning a title shot as Cena, and he challenges Cena to a one-on-one match next week! Cena laughs and says Riley’s getting ahead of himself. But, he accepts Riley’s challenge. Looking pleased, Riley turns to leave the ring, only to get attacked from behind by Cena! Cena throws Riley outside the ring, before handing a number of kicks to his body. Cena then whips Riley into the ring steps, and says “You can’t see me” before walking up the ramp. Anarchy goes to commercials showing Riley slumped over in the corner.

Tyson Kidd vs. Colt Cabana
Ever since his winning streak ended a few weeks back, Tyson Kidd has been looking to get back on track and taste victory once again. Tonight, he was hoping to change his luck against Colt Cabana, who hasn’t seen singles action for quite some time. However, the match turned against Kidd’s favor as CHRISTOPHER DANIELS appeared at ringside. Daniels instantly got involved, making Kidd unable to focus on Cabana inside the ring. The referee did what he could to even things out, but it wasn’t enough. As Cabana went to cover Kidd after an inverted suplex, Daniels head Kidd’s arms to the mat, not allowing him to kick out! After the match, Daniels walks up the ramp, smiling, as Cabana celebrated in the ring.

Colt Cabana pinned Tyson Kidd after an inverted suplex in 10:35.
Rating: ** ½

A preview for the “Best of the Best” pay-per-view is shown. A 15-man battle royal, for the chance to challenge the Heavyweight Champion at Wrestleocalypse, highlights the event. “Best of the Best” will be held on February 10th, from the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan!

Christopher Daniels vs. John Cena
Just a few moments after having a hand in helping Colt Cabana defeat Tyson Kidd, Christopher Daniels had a pretty big challenge to face in the ring. John Cena had already run down Alex Riley, after accepting his challenge, earlier in the evening. He was poised to continue making his claim as the odds-on favorite to win a Heavyweight Title shot, when CM PUNK made his way to ringside! Punk made his way to the broadcast table, where he watched Cena and Daniels continue their match. Cena controlled most of the match, with Daniels getting offense sparingly throughout. Cena wasn’t able to put Daniels away with the F-U, but after a running neck snap, Cena picked up the 1-2-3. After the match, Cena started shouting at Punk from inside the ring, claiming that Punk has the title that should still be his. Punk stands on the broadcast table, raising the title in the air, and tells Cena to come get it. Cena goes to leave the ring, but the referee holds him back. Punk jumps off the table and exits through the crowd as Anarchy goes to commercials.

Best of the Best Qualifying Match
Mike Sydal vs. Brutus Magnus vs. Randy Orton vs. Matt Morgan vs. Steve Corino (w/Shane Hagadorn)

The second qualifying match for the Best of the Best battle royal headlined tonight’s show in Santiago. For the second straight week, Shane Hagadorn accompanied his charge to the ring. Corino and Magnus were no strangers to each other, having just squared off earlier tonight in tag team action. Magnus quickly fell into trouble after ten-plus minutes of action, after taking a Carbon Footprint by Morgan. Afterward, Morgan dumped Magnus over the top rope for the first elimination. Seeing Morgan’s back turn, Corino took the opportunity to rush the big man. However, Morgan turned and used Corino’s momentum to send him over the top rope as well. Corino was able to hang onto the rope, but only for a moment, as Morgan kneed him in the back. Corino fell to the concrete as the second elimination. The next time, Morgan wasn’t so lucky, as Orton and Sydal came from behind and dumped Morgan over the top rope for the third elimination, leaving them as the final two participants. For nearly 12 minutes, Sydal – the smallest participant in the match – held his own with the former Heavyweight Champion, even getting very close to winning the match on a couple occasions. But Orton fought back, stunning Sydal with an RKO before tossing him over the top rope for the final elimination! Orton celebrated on the corners as Anarchy went off the air.
