Wicked Games Quaterfinal Match
“The Monster” Abyss vs. Ted DiBiase

Ted DiBiase found himself in a hole on his way to even getting into the tournament tonight. On Monday night, he was up against Kane, but was lucky enough to only last a minute in the ring with “The Big Red Monster”. However, DiBiase was unlucky in that, his former tag team partner - Cody Rhodes - returned and attacked him, giving him the top spot in the tournament. Tonight, though, DiBiase was up against another “Monster”, and didn’t have to worry about Cody Rhodes, who was not in the building. DiBiase came out strong tonight, but Abyss’s power and size made it tough for DiBiase to gain any advantage. Try as he might, DiBiase was never able to put Abyss away, but “The Monster” wound up being the cause of his own demise, holding a choke lift past the five-count, causing the referee to call for the disqualification. After the match, Abyss dropped DiBiase onto the canvas and stood over him, as the referee got between them. Abyss left the ring as DiBiase slowly rolled to the concrete outside.

Ted DiBiase defeated Abyss by disqualification in 0:12:56.

Wicked Games Quarterfinal Match
Kyle O’Reilly vs. Montel Vontavious Porter

This match was a big opportunity for Kyle O’Reilly, who has been in the HWL for just under a month, but he was stepping into the ring with a former X-Division Champion tonight. From the get-go, the pressure of being in such a high-stakes situation seemed to have gotten to O’Reilly, as he was unable to garner ANY offense against Porter. Porter dominated this match, and quickly put O’Reilly away with the Playmaker, to advance to the Semifinals.

Montel Vontavious Porter pinned Kyle O’Reilly with the Playmaker in 0:09:06.

A video package is shown of Matt Morgan’s and AJ Styles’s victories, on their way to the Wicked Games tournament. Josh and Scott discuss the history between the two of them, saying that it’s been over a year since they battled for the Heavyweight Title; and tonight, they will see who wants it more.

Wicked Games Quarterfinal Match
“The Blueprint” Matt Morgan vs. “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles (w/Chelsea & Ric Flair)

Monday night, at Anarchy, AJ Styles said that he hoped at some point, he and Morgan would face off during the tournament - rekindling their past feud for the Heavyweight Title. Tonight, his wish was granted in the very first round of the night, and neither men appeared willing to let the other one advance. The action went back and forth throughout the entirety of the match, until Morgan used the ringside area to his advance - even busting Styles open above the eye! The assault outside the ring clearly wore down Styles, and Morgan was able to connect with the Carbon Footprint, to move on to the Semifinals.

Matt Morgan pinned AJ Styles with the Carbon Footprint in 0:17:28.

A video package is shown of David Hart Smith’s and Randy Orton’s victories, entering them into the Wicked Games tournament. Josh and Scott discuss the possibility of David Hart Smith earning himself a title shot next month; and, if all goes well, becoming a double-champion… which would only give The Hart Dynasty more ammunition…

Wicked Games Quarterfinal Match
David Hart Smith (w/Natalya) vs. “The Viper” Randy Orton

The final match of the Quarterfinals saw two men who were on separate ends of the “luck” spectrum. Orton has had his share of good fortune since arriving in the HWL, but as of late, he’s found himself on the short end of some very embarrassing moments inside the ring. Tonight, Orton was hoping to change his luck around, and get one step closer to the Heavyweight Title. But, his opponent just happened to be one-half of the longest-reigning - and current - Tag Team Champions. David Hart Smith’s luck couldn’t have been better over the past several months; or that of the entire Hart Dynasty for that matter. But tonight, he was the only member with a chance to getting closer to having the family from Calgary holding every single title in the HWL. Smith’s luck was a little more obvious tonight, and thanks to some outside help from Natalya, Smith connected with a power slam that put away “The Viper”.

David Hart Smith pinned Randy Orton after a power slam in 0:11:00.

Backstage, Alisha Hicks is seen with Ted DiBiase, who says that he is very aware of the fact that the odds are stacked against him. He says that no one else has had to fight two of the biggest men to ever grace the HWL, and that he’s about to face his third. DiBiase acknowledges that Matt Morgan has a giant chip on his shoulder, and that will make things tougher tonight. But, he says that if he is able to get past Morgan, DiBiase should be awarded the title of No. 1 Contender… hands down.

Also backstage, Tim Hanson is seen with Heavyweight Champion, Desmond Wolfe. Wolfe says that tonight is going to be a huge night for either himself or D’Angelo Dinero, because either one of them could walk out both of the top titles in the company. But, he says, the true winners of tonight will be the fans, who are paying witness to an event like no other. Wolfe says that it doesn’t matter who wins the tournament tonight, because he doesn’t plan on letting go of the Heavyweight Title - or the X-Division Title, if he wins it - any time soon.

Wicked Games Semifinal Match
Ted DiBiase vs. “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan

DiBiase’s road to the No. 1 Contendership got a little more difficult in the semis, when he faced off with his third “giant” of the HWL. DiBiase was still showing signs of fatigue from his match earlier in the evening, and Matt Morgan appeared ready to continue his path of destruction as he manhandled DiBiase all over the ring. DiBiase tried as hard as he could to fight back, but he physically wasn’t able to match Morgan. Sensing his shot at the Heavyweight Title was slipping away, DiBiase knocked down the referee after getting a quick two-count on Morgan; and moments later, the referee called for the bell, disqualifying DiBiase. After the match, DiBiase argued with the referee, as Matt Morgan set up behind him. As DiBiase turned to leave the ring, Morgan connected with the Carbon Footprint, sending DiBiase to the canvas. Morgan left the ring, awaiting his opponent in the Finals.

Matt Morgan defeated Ted DiBiase by disqualification in 0:08:23.

A video package is shown, highlighting the tournament matches that have taken place tonight. Josh and Scott say that, no matter what, it’s going to be former champion versus former champion… or current champion… in tonight’s final.

Wicked Games Semifinal Match
Montel Vontavious Porter vs. David Hart Smith (w/Natalya)

Both of these men made their way to this match with impressive victories in the quarterfinals, and with two matches remaining between them and the chance to battle the Heavyweight Champion next month, they laid it all on the line. However, Smith’s luck continued to be with him in this match, as they match quickly went outside the ring; and with Porter in control, Smith was the target of a somersault body block. But, with help on the outside, Smith was pulled out of harm’s way before Porter could connect with the move! Porter smashed hard onto to the concrete, knocking the wind out of himself, as Smith rolled into the ring and the referee counted to ten.

David Hart Smith defeated Montel Vontavious Porter by countout in 0:02:54.

Backstage, Tim Hanson is seen with “The Blueprint” Matt Morgan, who says that he has already my good on his promise of keeping AJ Styles away from the Heavyweight Title. He says that, now, his goal is to beat David Hart Smith, and to return to the main event in the HWL… a place where he belongs.

Also backstage, Alisha Hicks is seen with X-Division Champion, D’Angelo Dinero. Dinero says that there is a lot of things running through his mind right now. He says, of course, the thought of becoming a double-champion is weighing on his mind; and that it is one thing he wants to accomplish. But, Dinero says, that the main thing he wants to figure out is who is behind the weeks of attacks ever since Downfall. Dinero says that, one way or another, he’s going to find out who his attacker is; and when he does, there’s going to be a whole lot of hell to pay.

Wicked Games Final
“The Blueprint” Matt Morgan vs. David Hart Smith (w/Natalya)

A great night of matches had led to this moment, and the crowd in the arena could’ve have been more ready to see which one of these two men wanted to headline “Caged Rage” next month. Anticipation filled the arena, but Matt Morgan was content on making this match end as quickly as possible, ensuring himself a shot at the Heavyweight Title. And that’s exactly what he did. Both men came out swinging, but an errant elbow to Smith’s jaw took him off his feet, and Morgan was able to capitalize, hitting a power slam for the three-count, and a guaranteed shot at the winner of tonight’s main event.

Matt Morgan pinned David Hart Smith after a power slam in 0:04:04.

Title vs. Title Match
© “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero vs. © Desmond Wolfe

A lot of questions were raised in the build-up to this match: would Dinero and Wolfe keep their attitudes about each other the same, or would the chance of holding two titles make them lose focus? Would Dinero’s attacker be revealed? And, how would this match shape the HWL afterward? Only one of those questions were answered tonight, as it was revealed that KANE had been behind Dinero’s attacks over the past month! “The Big Red Machine” came down to the ring, startling Desmond Wolfe, but then shocking everyone in the STAPLES Center by attacking Dinero from behind. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell, awarding the match to “The Pope”. However, due to the disqualification, both titles stayed with their respective owners, and the crowd booed heavily as Kane entered the ring and began to assault Dinero. Wolfe rolled out of the ring, grabbed the Heavyweight Title, and made his way to the back as HWL officials rushed to the ring, trying to assist Dinero.

D’Angelo Dinero defeated Desmond Wolfe by disqualification in 0:03:53.
